They are no longer about the business of saving souls, they are just "in business". We continue to attend a couple of Bible study classes at the local church, because we are in the company of others seeking to know our Lord more closely. But we now "do church" within the model of first century home churches and meet to worship and study God's Word with a small group of faithful -- away from the "formula" of church.

I would urge you to consider gathering together with a group of like-minded Christians and conducting your own service of worship to glorify God. Remember, that wherever two or more are gathered, our Lord is a part of our worship. Good luck to you and thank you for your meaningful comments. I left my church home about ten years ago and have not been able to find another that I love since. I left because for several months in a row the pastor felt compelled to remind the congregation of the building fund. This was not a poor church. It sat in a neighborhood of $400k plus homes and the church was buying them and leveling them to expand the parking lot.

In these times many churches is more concerned about how many heads they can pack in and how to keep them coming. Many are performing (yes I said performing!) three services on Sunday and mine had Friday and Saturday services as well. The pulpit has taken their focus off saving souls and instead focused on maximizing contributions. Mine also has a small concession in the lobby where tapes of the days sermon were sold and the asking price was well above the cost of the tape.

For decades I'd always paid my tithes in cash. My intent was to support the church body not to glorify myself or legitimize an income tax deduction. Occasionally I wouldn't have enough time to get cash and I'd slip a check in the offering plate. A few years ago I lost my job and was out of work for more than nine month's. After exhausting my all savings and my unemployment benefits the power company was about to turn off the lights. I went to my church and asked for help. Much to my surprise they produced a "history" of my contributions. Needless to say none of my cash contributions were included. They went on to ask since I'd done so little for the church why the church should help me.

This is not to say that there aren't God fearing/God loving congregations out there. I'm just saying that the larger the parking lot the less likely this is to be true. Just because there's a cross over the door doesn't mean God is inside.

You are a blessing lady, keep up the good work.fifth_disciple@hotmail.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-367019700923216960.post-74378912487345392272014-02-23T16:19:57.418-06:002014-02-23T16:19:57.418-06:00Aint this the truth! The whos of whos, dictate proper dress, political correctness and "tolerance" as Christian values. Oh and don't foget "who" just threw in that 100.00 dollar bill ! Of course they are going to heaven, "they" just bought their ticket. I'm afraid if they were asked if our nation should repent, they would ask "what for"?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
