A Modern Woman's Perspective On The Kingdom of God on Earth

Why I Carry

I copied the title of this post from a recent link on my favorite blog, survivalblog.com.  It was an article written over six years ago, in which the writer argues that carrying concealed is an act that helps guarantee a civil and safe society.  I'd like to pull a quote from this article, and then expand on it from a woman's perspective.

"The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger; a 75-year-old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year-old gang banger; and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats.  The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender."

Initially, I admit that I got my CHL because it was my right as a citizen of this country to own and carry a weapon, as established by the 2nd Amendment to our Constitution, and I felt that right being threatened.  But as I educated myself and sought out appropriate training, I realized that there were other reasons I wanted to carry.

My Carry Weapon:  Glock 26 -  9 mm

First, I realized that this is not my mother's generation.  There is not a friendly policeman on every street corner, waiting to rescue a damsel in distress.  If I am confronted with a threat, I can only count on myself for protection.  As Michael Bane says, "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away."  Secondly, the rise of Evil is undeniable, and it is covert.  There are no "safe" places anymore.  You can encounter a deadly threat anywhere!  If our churches are no longer free from the threat of an armed intruder, then we must be on the alert everywhere.
I also feel it is my responsibility to know how to protect myself.  I can no longer be naive and think "it will never happen to me."  Statistics prove otherwise.  And if I am going to carry a weapon, I better know how to competently handle it; be comfortable having it on my person; and most importantly, know when and when not to use it.  That includes all the legal ramifications of carrying a gun.
The rise of Gun Culture 2.0 (which is bolstered by large numbers of women) only strengthens the Constitution.  The more of the population who get licensed, trained and are willing to carry, the more difficult it becomes for a government to disarm that population.  And as history has taught us, a disarmed population is more likely to be ruled by a tyrant.
So, Ladies, you have a choice here!  The ability to buy a gun on your own is not enough---neither is the fact that you can spend 8 hours in a classroom situation, shoot several rounds at a target, and get certified to carry concealed.  Having all the guns in the world, or that card in your wallet will not protect you!  I want to leave you with a blog post from another empowered woman.  She suffered that assault from a mugger that we all fear.  And she determined to never let it happen again.  She has used that experience to educate others, and on the anniversary of her assault is giving one woman the opportunity to overcome her fear or hesitancy, and get trained.  Read her story and ask yourself this question:  "Do I feel I could protect myself in a similar situation?" Don't wait to be mugged before you see the truth in my argument!  Be responsible for yourself, and eliminate the word "victim" from your vocabulary!

Psalm 37:7    "Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes."

  1. Apparently this feeling has spread like fire. I read an article stating that over 10 million guns sold in 2011.

    http://www.ammoland.com/2012/01/04/free-americans-buy-10800000-guns-in-2011-dont-f-with-usa/

Of particular interest to me is the data below "So what does 10,800,000 look like?".

Your message that gun ownership does not end at purchase cannot be emphasized enough. It is our responsibility to educate, promote safety, and become skilled in the use of our firearms. Because if we dont, well, you know who will.

    Thanks for the post.

  2. You're right. Gun purchases and training are accelerating at a rapid rate, and the fastest growing segment of that population are women. It's good to see that training is on the rise. Ten years ago, Gunsite or Thunderanch were your only options for training. Now it seems you can find training in every city. It see that as a positive trend.

  3. It would be cool if there was a web page dedicated to firearms training. A place that lists and organizes all the different training available and their locations. Or is that available already? Maybe I am missing it. Easy enough to find what we already know about but there may be closer or newer options available. Thumbs up on your post!
